A study to assess the knowledge level of women regarding calcium deficiency and its prevention in orthopedic outpatient department, Batra hospital and medical research centre, Delhi

Abstract:

According to National Family Health Survey (2019-2020), India demonstrates, 50% of children aged 5-19 years had calcium deficiency. In 2022 study published in Journal of Family Medicine and Primary Care, 75% of adult were deficient of calcium. A study published in the Journal of Clinical and Diagnostic Research in October 2021 found that 80% of Indian pregnant women had calcium deficiency. A descriptive study was conducted in the year 2024, on 50 women at selected Orthopedic Outpatient Department, Batra Hospital and Medical Research Centre with the objectives to assess the knowledge level of women regarding calcium deficiency in Orthopedic outpatient department Batra Hospital and Medical Research Centre, Delhi and to associate the knowledge level with selected socio-demographic variables among women regarding calcium deficiency in Orthopedic Outpatient department Batra Hospital and Medical Research Centre, Delhi. Data was obtained through simple random sampling technique with the help of structured questionnaire for accessing the level of knowledge regarding Calcium Deficiency and its prevention. The findings of the study indicates that 60% women were having average knowledge score and subjects were deficit of knowledge regarding Calcium Deficiency and its prevention. The calculated chi-square value between the level of knowledge and demographic variables was not statistically significant as evident from p < 0.05 value. Hence, it was concluded that the average knowledge score was 60% and the study subjects were deficit of knowledge regarding calcium deficiency and its prevention.
