Background: Therapeutic communication in nursing reinforces the nurse-client relationship. It can help cut through barriers of culture and gender, establish a connection, and deal with situations where empathy is needed with the patient. Therapeutic communication is the fundamental component of nursing that focuses on advancing physical, mental, and emotional well-being. Nurses use therapeutic communication techniques to provide support and information to patients.
Aim of the study: The aim was to assess the nurses' knowledge of therapeutic communication at the 250-bed Mohammad Ali Hospital, Bogura.
Methodology: This descriptive type of cross-sectional study was conducted with 110 samples followed by those who met the inclusion criteria to assess the nurses' knowledge regarding therapeutic communication at 250-bed Mohammad Ali Hospital, Boguram, Bangladesh. The study was conducted from July 2023 to December 2023. The instruments for data collection were a semi-structured questionnaire composed of Demographic variables and a knowledge-related questionnaire.
Results: The main findings of the present study revealed that 0.91% were at a good level of knowledge, 9.09% were at a moderate level of knowledge and 4.55% were at a poor level of knowledge regarding therapeutic communication.
Conclusion: It is concluded that the nurses working in the selected governmental hospital have moderate knowledge regarding therapeutic communication. An intervention to increase nurses' knowledge regarding therapeutic communication should be carried out through the collaborative activities of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and respective hospital administrators by providing exceptional training, refreshment training, and continuing educational programs among nurses.
