Abstract:

The National Educational Policy 2020 offers a comprehensive framework for the transformation of nursing education in India, poised to elevate the nursing profession and its impact on healthcare delivery. By embracing the policy's key tenets, the nursing community can lead the charge in delivering high-quality, patient-centered care, driving innovation, and addressing pressing social and public health challenges. The National Educational Policy 2020 presents a transformative vision for the nursing profession in India, with the potential to significantly enhance the role and impact of nurses within the healthcare ecosystem. By aligning nursing education with the evolving needs of the 21st-century healthcare landscape, the policy aims to equip nurses with the necessary knowledge, skills, and competencies to thrive in an increasingly complex and technology-driven environment. Through its emphasis on cultivating global competencies, promoting interdisciplinary collaboration, and fostering leadership skills, the policy sets the stage for nurses to become influential change agents within the healthcare system. The outcomes of NEP-2020 to a larger extent depend on its proactive implementation and utilisation of opportunities for both educators and students. Reforms to merge the multiple regulatory bodies into a single regulatory body might remove the corruption; however, the clarity regarding the so-called ‘light but tight regulations’ is the need of the hour to achieve equity and quality in nursing education in India.
