Introduction: Expressed breast milk refers to squeezing milk out from the breast so it can be store and feed it to baby later. Breast milk can be expressed by hand, or with a manual or electric breast pump. Breast milk must be collected and properly stored to prevent the risk of bacterial growth. Breast milk is the perfect food for babies. Breast milk has all the nutrients babies keep to healthy and develop. Aim of the study is to assess the knowledge and attitude regarding expressed breast milk and it’s storage among antenatal mothers.
Material and Methods: A descriptive study was conducted among antenatal mothers in Community Health Centre, Mirza. Sample size taken for the study was 100. The study samples were selected by purposive sampling technique. Data was collected by using structured interview schedule.
Results: The present study showed that 16(16%) had poor knowledge, 51(51%) average knowledge and 33(33%) had good knowledge among antenatal mothers on expressed breast milk and its storage. 72% had favorable attitude, 28% had neutral attitude and none of antenatal mothers had unfavorable attitude regarding expressed breast milk and its storage. Knowledge score of expresssed breast milk and its storage had shown statistically significance association with residence and attitude score of expresssed breast milk and its storage had shown statistically significance association with age, educational status, occupational status and family income.
Conclusion: The study shows that majority of antenatal mothers had average knowledge and favorable attitude regarding expressed breast milk and its storage. In future there is a scope to conduct more research on Knowledge and Attitude regarding Expressed Breast Milk and it’s Storage among Antenatal as well as Post natal mothers.
