Abstract:

The Needle Stick Injury (NSI) is a vital occupational risk that poses transfer of infection to healthcare workers. Presence of gap between knowledge and attitude about NSI is essential towards improving curriculum, safety and quality care, informed decisions, health risk decline and less prevalence and incidence. This study aims to evaluate the knowledge and attitudes of nursing and dental students regarding needle stick injury. This research utilized a descriptive observational cross-sectional survey research. The questionnaire was administered via Google forms thru online survey by using multiple platforms such as Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp. The total study population was selected purposively with 306 nursing and dentistry students. The findings revealed that more than half of the studied sample had low knowledge and negative attitudes about NSI. The marital status and number of NSI are statistically significant with attitude towards needle stick injury. It is concluded that no statistical correlation exists between the students’ knowledge and attitude regarding needle stick injury.
